Mattie Ross is only 14 but it is firmly determined to avenge the death of his father, killed in cold blood by Tom Chaney. He decides to take a drunken sheriff and Federal trigger-happy, Reuben "Rooster" Cogburn, and together they hunted to Chaney before the Texas Ranger Le Boeuf the capture and return it to Texas for the murder of a senator.
